About me

Short bio & personal info

I was born in Sitges (Catalonia, Spain), a coastal town with an extraordinary cultural offering. It is well known for its carnival and for hosting the "International Fantastic and Horror Film Festival of Catalonia". When I was a child, I wanted to become an inventor because I was really interested in science and technology, largely thanks to the television program "Beakman's World" broadcast on TV3.

With this motivation I moved to Barcelona to attend university, where I obtained my B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering respectively. The Materials Science and Engineering classes with Professor Borros (PI of the GEMAT group) where key for my education, because he made us realize that engineering only advances significantly when materials science does (development of steels, semiconductors, and other advances of humanity). With this perspective in mind, I decided to specialize in materials science and later on, in my PhD, in biomaterials for flexible electronics. Upon obtaining my PhD I co-founded a start-up called Tractivus along with other members of GEMAT. Our aim was to develop new strategies to fight against bacterial colonization and biofilm formation on medical devices, which constitutes one of the major challenges of the healthcare system nowadays. The experience of being an entrepreneur bringing a technology from the laboratory to the market was very enriching, as this should be the goal of research: that its results could directly reach society. After completing the Tractivus project (in 2021), I started teaching at IQS in materials science and medical technologies. In my research, I continued with the goal of exploiting the potential of biomaterials and surface engineering applied to medical devices to improve the quality of life of patients.

Besides research, I am a great enthusiast of photography and hobbies categorized as subculture: video games, board games, and role-playing games. During college, I spent more time than I would like to admit playing World of Warcraft and League of Legends (reaching gold rank), although currently I prefer more narrative games (and less time-consuming) such as Disco Elysium or Firewatch. I also have a large collection of board games, although after the birth of my daughter I put all these hobbies aside to focus on my family. During the past few months the only hobbies I could enjoy for some time were Marvel Snap and improve my handicap in a golf course.
